An audio Bible that works without internet

Every translation is built into Bible for Me, and narration downloads to your phone the first time you play a chapter. After that, nothing needs a connection. Not the text, not the audio, not your plans or notes.

Plenty of Bible apps say they work offline. What they usually mean is that the text works offline and the audio streams. Bible for Me is different: the narration lives on your phone once you've played it, so a flight, a cabin, a subway, or a hospital basement doesn't stop the reading.

How offline listening works

  1. Open a chapter and tap Listen. The narration for that book downloads in the background. On Wi-Fi, a book takes seconds.
  2. The audio stays on your phone. Play it again tomorrow, next week, or on a plane, with no connection at all.
  3. Move to the next book and it downloads the same way. You only ever store what you've actually listened to.

Because downloads happen per book rather than all at once, the app itself is small. There's no multi-gigabyte install, and no waiting for "the whole Bible" to finish before you can hear a chapter.

Getting ready for a trip

If you want specific books ready before you lose signal, play a few seconds from each one while you're on Wi-Fi. A common pattern before a long flight: the Gospel of John, Psalms, and whatever your reading plan has scheduled for the week. Each is ready in well under a minute.

Tip: If you use more than one narrator, each voice has its own download. Pick the voice you'll want on the road before you leave home.

Everything else is offline too

  • All 38 translations, in 27 languages, are bundled inside the app. Switch between the KJV, WEB, ASV, or a Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or Korean Bible without downloading anything. See the list.
  • Reading plans and devotionals are built in. All 50 plans and 400+ devotionals work with airplane mode on.
  • Word study, cross-references, and search run locally. Look up the Greek behind a word in Philippians from a tent.
  • Highlights, notes, and prayers are saved on your phone first, and sync to your own iCloud when you're back online.

Storage, honestly

Narration is compressed audio, and a full book is typically tens of megabytes. Genesis and Psalms are the biggest; Philemon and Jude are tiny. If you eventually download the entire Bible with one narrator it comes to under a gigabyte, less than a single downloaded movie. You can see and remove downloaded audio under More › Settings › Manage downloaded audio whenever you want the space back.

Why this matters

Offline isn't only about airplanes. It's the difference between an audio Bible that stutters in a parking garage and one that doesn't, between paying for data on a long commute and not, and between an app that quietly stops working on a mission trip and one that keeps reading. The Bible shouldn't depend on the network.
